Here's the story.

A good friend call me about 2 weeks ago and said, "You have to check out this rover I just saw on craigslist!!" He found a 1996 SE7 for a great price with a 5" RTE lift, offset steelies with 295/75's, GBR 4.11's open front and trutrac in back and other goodies. Basically the setup i always wanted for my 96 5-speed. I thought about it, asked the wife, got the ok and bought it. I convinced my friends that a complete drive train and suspension swap was do able in 2 days with me working all day and them helping after work. A gracious friend allowed me to use his driveway and lots of his tools. We started monday afternoon. Of course it was 100F+ that day...great. My truck spent most of it's life on the east coast, in NJ and CT, a fact that made a majority of the fasteners a real treat to deal with. With 4 guys we were able to pull the front end out of both rigs and swap them on the first night in about 5 hours. The next morning, again 100F+, I buttoned up the fronts, torqued and retorqued everything, and started on the back of the donor rig. By the time everyone arrived the rear was ready to be rolled out from under the donor rig, and mine hadn't been touched. This is where the fun really began. We spent about 1.5 hrs on a suck brake line and the rest of the night on the rear a-arm/ball joint bolts. We were supposed to be done tuesday night and we couldn't even get the rear end out of my rig by 9:30 pm. To make matters worse I was moving on Saturday and had only packed about half of our stuff. Wednesday morning I soaked every fastener I could find with penetrating oil and let it soak for the day while I packed. That night we pulled the entire a-arm out with the rear end still attached. One bolt came out with considerable effort, the other did not. We ended up taking the a-arm with the ball joint to a friends dad's house and had to use a 20 ton press, a rosebud until it was glowing, and an impact wrench to get it out of there. Holy crap!!! Never seen anything like it. By that night my truck was back together, torqued and ready for the road. The donor truck had a bunch of loose ends to tie up which happened on thurdsay in both the morning and evening. In all I figure it took just under 100 man hrs to get the entire job done. What a mess but totally worth it. The front drive shaft was still stock and didn't do the job so I had another built. I ran around town in 2wd for a couple of days until the new shaft was fabed at a local shop. After all was said and done we moved, I cleaned up the donor truck, made it shine and sold it on craigs list. Total tun around was 14 days. Not bad. Enjoy the pics. Sorry I don't have a better one yet of my rig. I plan on taking it out very soon and getting some trail pics.

Mistery vibration problem solved. Onto next mistery issue. My LR3 has been sounding for months now like an old barn door is being opened everytime the suspension flexes like when going over a wide speed bump at medium speed. eeeee, aaawwww, eeee, awwwww. It sounds like a old ungreased pinto and it's driving me mad. I have sprayed everything I can think of under the darn thing to no avail. I changed all my bushings to Poly (it needed it anyway), to no avail. I read on another post that LR3 owners are finding that greasing the sway bar at the point where the "u" clamps hold it to the frame fixes the problem,... haha, not mine. Still have the darn sound. Anyone else experience this and how solved?

Ok... having replaced both the water pump and the coolant expansion tank, the upper radiator hose seems to have gotten weak from all the crazy heat under the hood. That's no problem, I'm going to pick one up here in a bit.

However, the engine still seems to run a little hot, but the temp gauge doesn't get any higher than 1/2. That being said, my thoughts are turning to thermostat issues... But squeezing on the upper hose surges fluid through the system. (not to mention the 1193 code keeps going off like some kind of bad alarm clock)

Any thoughts on what's going on?

Back from the Dusy trip two weeks ago, was out 5 days and 4 nights w/the guys. Time to spend some time locally and with family this coming labor day wknd.

Thinking of hitting Great America for 1 day.

Having not been to Great America in years (10-15 years ago). Wow, admission prices have gone up to $59.99 for adults. Thank goodness for corporate discount @ work for $24.

Anyways, I know this is not a wheeling trip but have a few questions to regulars to this park:

1) Attractions for 5 and 8 year old boys?

My kids love water; we're thinking spenidng the whole day in Boomerang Bay: ride Digderidoo falls with the family, side and swim in Boomerang Lagoon, and the Great Barrier looks cool: http://www.cagreatamerica.com/attrac...ry.cfm?ac_id=6

We might check out the new Planet Snoopy

Any other attractions for 5 & 8 year old boys you might suggest in this park? My 8 year old (he is 51" tall and I think will be able to go on most ride) might be up for a wild rollercoaster ride

2) Parking?

Standard parking is $12, and premium is $15 (close to the entrance); rather spend the parking money for lunch (smile). Any tips for legal free parking. I don't mind walking - can drop off the family near the entrance and I will park and walk back.

3) Shows?

Any shows worth seeing.

4) Dinning?

I am want to try the world famous fried chicken @ Maggie Browns (is this hype or really good?) but my wife would prefer restaurant or deli style place that serves other than greasy burger, hot dogs and fries. Any deli or good sandwich place in the park?

Thanks in advance!

There is a prominent whistle/hissing coming from the intake system of my 93 4.2. Vacuum gauge shows good pressure. I dont hear it when the car is in park but as soon as I put it into a drive gear and the rpms drop it can be heard. the tone of the whistle changes as you move the throttle but goes away after about quarter throttle. I was thinking it could be the idle air control valve creating the noise but it just started about two weeks ago. Ive had the IAC off and cleaned and resealed it but whistle is still there. Not sure if anyone else has any experience with this sort of thing. Idle quality is great. It doesnt seem to be hurting anything but is annoying enough not to drive with the window down.

:banghead:

Well hello everyone. It's been a long while since I posted on here. About a year ago the head gasket on our 99 D1 let go. Knowing what I know now, I think it was leaking for a while as we were having intermittent overheating problems. I replaced the fan clutch, waterpump, and thermostat, which seemed to help, but then one day it overheated again and we haven't driven it since (other than moved it once or twice).

So, I definitely shouldn't have let it sit for so long, but we had other cars to drive and other things to spend money on. So I've got the disco in the garage now, and pulled the hood off last night. Getting ready to tear into it and replace the head gasket. Pulled the dipstick and my oil now looks "muddy" I've seen oil get milky from coolant (I checked it about 2 months ago and it looked clean). I'm really hoping coolant hasn't caused the internals to corrode...

We've had this truck for about 4 years and LOVED every moment with it, 'till this. Really sucks. One thing I do know is the engine has not been run or turned over with the oil looking like this, so that's good.
Debating what to do. Don't even know if the block is any good, may have slipped a sleeve, maybe not. 154k miles. Was about to order the head gasket kit from atlantic british along with some new plugs and go to work...

I do have one of these.http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_d...45524442624777

Just curious.
